 Spokespersons for Chairmen of Local Governments and LCDAs in Lagos State have commended the efforts of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu towards ensuring normalcy and peace in the State, following recent unrest.

The Spokespersons, under the aegis of Conference 57 Chief Press Secretaries, CONF. 57 CPS, empathized with families who lost their loved ones during the peaceful protest in Lagos and other parts of the country.

The Conference, a self-acclaimed mouthpiece of the grassroots, vowed to promote policies of Lagos State government, especially on the area of re-orientating the masses on the need for the public to shun violence, destruction of public and private properties.

At a Press Briefing to lend voice towards the #EndSARS Protest, held at the Onigbongbo LCDA, Ikeja, the CONF. 57 CPS Chairman, Owolabi Ajimomuya, CPS to the Chairman, Somolu LG, Hon. AbdulHameed Salawu, stressed that the major  crusade was to enlighten the masses on the negative impact of fake news across the various platforms including the social media.

Stressing that “the recent uprising in Lagos State was enabled by news stories that were diabolical, manipulative and destructive to the sanctity of our basic existence as humans, Ajimomu promised that the Conf.57 CPS would engage “electorate in the grassroots on the integrity of being objective on matters of national discourse without envisaging the traits of political, ethnic and religious colorations”.

Urging “Lagosians whose business was affected to fill the LSETF portal and file their claims accordingly, the Conference “urge entrepreneurs in Lagos to maximize the opportunities offered through the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund {NYIF}, under the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, which was the federal government commitment towards the economic emancipation of the youths with projects and programs designed to boost entrepreneurship and human capital development across the country.

It also noted that “one of our sole responsibilities would be to give adequate coverage and reporting of the judicial panel of enquiry as they engage in criminal prosecution of police officers for offences related to violation of human rights in Lagos State.

According to the Somolu CPS, “it has become crucial for youths to participate actively in governance and politics, starting from the grassroots; as “lessons from the ENDSARS protest must propagate a new horizon in national discourse among the youths, and with the commitment of becoming engaging, responsive and objective in their perception of how their future would be governed by themselves. 

Ajimomuya also vowed that the Conference 57 CPS would continue to uphold the leadership qualities of a National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he reffered to as a pathfinder and transformer of modern day politics in Lagos and Nigeria.

Noting that Senator Tinubu’s “political philosophy and national legacies towards the attainment of democracy in Nigeria cannot be over-emphasized, ascertained that the loyalty of Members of the Conf57 CPS to him, “through our elected local government chairmen has been intensified more than ever in the course of this social unrest, and we are more than ready to propagate your political philosophies beyond the barriers of this shore for a better, stronger and progressive Niger

Sofola Distributes Sanwo- Olu's  Food Palliative Packs to  Tradesmen, Artisans in Kosofe Local Government In a bid to mitigate against the impact of Coronavirus pandemic on the informal sector in Lagos State, the Executive Chairman Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Afolabi Sofola ably represented by the Supervisor for Agriculture, Youth, Rural and Social Development, Hon. Oyeyemi Oyetayo assisted by CDC Chairman,. Hon. Segun Babatunde yesterday distributed food palliatives packs to members of Lagos State Council ofTradesmen and Artisans in Kosofe Local Government, undertaken by the Lagos State Government. The distribution of the food palliative packs which comprises of sacks of stable foods, packs of Noddles was distributed to the recipients at the council premises. The Executive Chairman, Hon. FUEL SUBSIDY: HOW GOVT CAN SHOW  KINDNESS. So much debates are in the public space with respect to the Federal Government/NNPCL announcement of removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). While some welcome the idea, some condemned it - not even at this time. This idea of removal of the subsidy to the large extent will be of great advantage - provided Government can be truthful in redirecting the funds into the economy sectors that less privileged ones can benefit greatly. I may not dabble into the whole subsidy removal in this post. However, I have one advice for Government, especially, Lagos State, that everyone is currently feeling the heat of the impromptu announcement which has the tendency to affect the cost of living. I want to urge Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to help cushion the effects of the increase on PMS by reducing the BRT Fair, not only that, additional BRT buses should be released into Lagos transport sector.
